Strengthening Your Spirituality

Finding Your Purpose

Details:

Most of us have wrestled with the question at some point: What am I here for? Deep down, we sense we were made for something more than just going through the motions of daily life. We chase fulfillment in success, relationships, experiences, or comfort—but often still feel a lingering emptiness, a quiet ache that something important is missing. That ache is real. It's the soul’s reminder that we were created for a purpose—on purpose. And until we align our lives with that purpose, there will always be a part of us that feels incomplete.  The good news is that God isn’t trying to hide your purpose from you. He’s not playing a cosmic game of hide-and-seek. He wants you to know why you’re here. He designed you with intention, and He’s already revealed so much of your purpose in His Word. When we understand and align ourselves with the heart of God and the reasons He created us, we begin to live in the center of His will. That’s where true fulfillment, fruitfulness, and lasting impact are found.

God’s Purposes for You

Understanding and aligning our lives with the heart of God and the reasons He created us allows us to step into the very center of His will. These aren’t just suggestions—they are the foundation of the greatest purposes we could ever live out. When we embrace what God has already revealed in Scripture, we begin to live with eternal impact, walking in the life we were always meant for.

  • Know and Love God: Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. We were created for relationship with God. Everything starts here. When we know Him intimately and love Him deeply, it shapes how we see ourselves and how we treat others. Our devotion to God overflows into compassion, justice, and purpose that the world desperately needs.
  • Love Others as Ourselves: The second greatest commandment is to love others the way we love ourselves. This isn’t sentimental—it’s sacrificial, consistent, and active love. From God’s perspective, how we treat others is a direct reflection of how we love Him. When we choose to love, serve, and forgive, we reveal God’s heart and help restore a broken world.
  • Glorify God in All We Do: Whether we’re working, resting, parenting, leading, or struggling, everything can be done in a way that honors God. Living with this kind of intentionality reminds us that our lives are part of a much bigger story. When others see our integrity, peace, and joy, they’re drawn to the God who fuels it.
  • Share the Gospel: Jesus gave us the mission to share the good news of salvation with the world. This isn’t just for pastors or missionaries—it’s for every believer. People around us are searching for hope, identity, and healing. When we share the Gospel, we’re offering them the most important truth they’ll ever hear: that they are loved, seen, and saved through Christ.
  • Make Disciples: Beyond introducing people to Jesus, we’re called to walk alongside them in growth. Discipleship means helping others know God, follow Him, and live out their faith. It’s a long-term investment in people’s lives that multiplies impact and builds up the Church. God values transformation—and He often uses us to help bring it.
  • Serve Others: God calls us to use our freedom not for ourselves, but to serve others. Service is one of the most Christ-like things we can do. Jesus washed feet, healed the sick, and lifted the lowly. When we serve, especially when it costs us something, we bring light to dark places and meet real needs in a hurting world.
  • Give Generously: Generosity reflects the heart of God, who gives freely and abundantly. Whether it’s our time, money, energy, or attention, giving isn’t just about charity—it’s about trusting God to provide and using what we have to bless others. Generosity breaks chains of greed, lifts burdens, and fuels ministry, justice, and healing in tangible ways.
  • Care for the Oppressed and Marginalized: God is deeply concerned with justice, and He commands His people to protect the vulnerable. When we care for the poor, the outcast, the orphan, the widow, and the oppressed, we are aligning with God’s own priorities. It’s not peripheral—it’s central to the Gospel. We become His hands and feet in a world full of suffering.
  • Discover and Use Our Spiritual Gifts: Every believer has been uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit to build up the Body of Christ and bless the world. Your gifts—whether teaching, encouraging, leading, creating, or helping—aren’t random. They are divine tools for impact. When we use them in love, we strengthen the Church, meet needs, and reflect God's creativity and power.

Do I Have a Unique Calling?

While the list above gives us the foundation of God’s revealed purposes for every believer, discovering your individual calling is also part of how you live out the life you were uniquely created for. When you commit to loving God, loving others, sharing the Gospel, and serving the world, you can be confident that you’re already walking in the center of His will. But within that larger mission, God also has specific callings for your life—assignments and paths that may be different from those of other believers. Scripture tells us to “keep on asking… keep on seeking… keep on knocking” (Matthew 7:7), and God promises He will reveal what we need in time. This personal sense of calling often aligns with the spiritual gifts God has given you—divine abilities intended to build up the Church and reach the world with His love. There are many different kinds of spiritual gifts, each uniquely crafted by God to serve His purposes. Some are more visible; others operate behind the scenes. All are equally valuable in His eyes. Whether someone is gifted in teaching, serving, encouraging, or showing mercy, every gift plays a vital role in the body of Christ. The Bible highlights spiritual gifts in several key passages, including 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4. Below is a list of these gifts, with a brief description of each.
