How to Memorize Scripture

In this article, we will explain two ways of memorizing scripture.  One classic way of doing it is by using flashcards.  The other way is a free cell phone app designed to help with Bible memorization.  

Flashcard Bible Memorization

• Get a pack of index cards. Write the verse reference on one side and the text of the verse on the other side.
  
• Throughout the day, whenever you have a few minutes, pull out your Scripture card and review it. Read the reference first, followed by the verse. Continue to recite the verse until you get a feel for the flow of the passage. When you are comfortable with the text, look only at the reference side of the card in order to test your recall.
  
• Site the verse reference, the verse text and then the verse reference by memory.
  
• Have an accountability partner. Few people memorize scripture unless they are accountable to someone.
  

Phone App Memorization

• Below you will find a free phone app called Verse Locker which provides great activities and games to help you memorize Bible verses.  For example, it will blur out words in a verse and have you practice reciting it without seeing every word.  It can have you pick words from a list of options to fill in the blanks on a verse from start to finish. It can show you the first letters in each word and have you try to recite the verse based on that.
